IppazzI has been described as “making the concept of diversity audible in joining culturally diverse sounds into one.” –News Record. Most notably, ippazzi incorporates a pop-singer/songwriter style in conjunction with R&B and spoken word to produce a surprisingly cohesive, fresh new sound.

IppazzI was first created when songwriter Greg Petronzi met poet and lyricist Akil Davis at an open mic session at New York University. While each performer tried to win the audience over during their turn, after a back and forth dual, they decided to join forces and create music that was unlike anything else.

Their most recent album, titled “Balance Between” has everything to do with the fact that Greg and Akil are so different yet produce music that eloquently synthesizes the elements of their differences; rock and rap, black and white, acoustic and electric to name a few.

In 2008, a friend and fellow performer Elliott Chisholm stepped in to sub for Akil and something new followed. As Elliott and Greg rehearsed together, new themes emerged and new sounds were incorporated. In addition to the pop and spoken word, Elliott contributed a routed R&B expression.

IppazzI now, much like the city of its origin, can be described as a melting pot of sounds and musical ideas. Different genres of music, different ethnic backgrounds, different people and personalities, come together in a place and medium that they may not have otherwise. The product is something completely unique.
